Synopsis

SEGA Brawlers Megamix is an awesome fan made retro side-scrolling beat-em-up that features a roster of about 74 characters from SEGA classics like Sonic, Toejam & Earl, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Guardian Heroes, Comix Zone, Shinobi, Vector Man, Ristar, and other multiplatform games like Earthworm Jim, Battletoads and Splatterhouse.

It's a wonderful love letter to SEGA's 16-Bit heyday and a remarkably fun 4 player beat-em-up. The amount of work that's gone into the game is incredible, all the characters have their own move sets and special moves, the soundtrack is fantastic and all the levels and enemies are based on classics, such as Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Sonic. There's even a Vs Battle mode, as well as various unlockable gameplay modes and characters unlocked by completing the main adventure.

The game's still in development, and could do with a little more variety in the main adventure mode and some bigger bosses, but the massive character roster certainly makes up for these minor shortfalls. It's a fantastic homage to SEGA, 16-bit gaming and classic side-scrolling arcade beat-em-ups. Remarkably, the dev (DJGameFreakTheIguana) is still planning to add even more characters to the game. There really can't be many more 16-bit SEGA characters out there ? Ecco the Dolphin maybe?

-Set controls for Attacks 1,2,3, & 4, all of them are used. Attack 1 is used for combo attacks, some characters have only 1 strike to knuck enemies away. Attacks 2 3 & 4 are used to perform different special moves. Some characters can use more moves by pressing one of the button while moving.

-Special is a strong move most characters use to blast many enemies away in different ways. Some do combos, shoot power shots, effect much of the screen, or blast through the stage blasting anyone in their way. Some of them(Mainly the Steets of Rage fighters) have a second special that can be used while holding left or right.

-Most characters are able to grab enemies by walking into them. You can pummel by pressing attack, perform different finishers by pressing attack while holding up or down, and can throw or perform a different attack while pressing your controls behind you(If you grab while facing right, hold left on your key/contoller)

-In battle mode, there are 2 different stages. 3D stages allow you to move in all diresctions(Like steets of Rage), but on 2D stages, you can only move left or right(Like Sonic

-in 2D stages, you can perform moves to jump up platforms too high to reach with a normal jump by holding down and pressing the jump key, or jump down the platform by holding down and pressing attack. Most characters can attack during these jumps, so watch for enemies over or under you

-There are only 3 modes to play, Adventure, Arcade, and Battle. Beating adventure mode will unlock the other modes. Most of them are the same except Aliiance mode and Mission mode. In all of these locked modes, you can play as the secret characters. They will still show up as ? marks on the screen, but keep going through the characters as you would and they will appear.
