Synopsis

“The Three Musketeers” is a software adaptation of the novel of the same name and follows the story of a secret affair between Anne of Austria, wife of King Louis XIII, and the Duke of Buckingham. Cardinal Richelieu wants to remove Anne to increase his own influence over the king. When she sends a diamond necklace to the Duke as a token of love – the very necklace she is supposed to wear at an important ball – Richelieu sees his chance. Now it's up to the three musketeers Athos, Porthos and Aramis, along with newcomer D'Artagnan, to retrieve it in time. You play as D'Artagnan. The game plays like a choose-your-own adventure: you read lengthy written passages accompanied by static images and make decisions from several options – sometimes under time pressure. Only the correct choice moves the story forward. Occasionally, you must also choose cardinal directions, such as in a maze sequence.
