Synopsis

In To Hell and Back you take on the role of a heavenly warrior sent on a mission to recover the Ten Commandments stolen by Mephisto from the depths of hell. Starting at the gates of hell, you fight your way through maze-like platform stages where enemies must be defeated with your halo while avoiding deadly hazards such as spikes and lava. Contact with enemies drains your energy, and if it reaches zero or you touch a trap you lose one of your lives. Occasionally you can find Bibles that restore your energy. At the end of each stage a powerful boss awaits, and defeating it allows you to recover one of the stolen commandments.
